Stripes slated to open second store soon

Construction continues along the Interstate 20 southern service road, at the intersection with State Highway 17, as crews near completion on the second new Stripes store to open in Pecos in just over a year.

Store #2745, is scheduled to open early this spring, and will be the company’s fourth store locally, and the second of its new 7,500-square foot stores in Pecos. This comes as Stripes store #2267 just celebrated its one-year anniversary.

That held its grand opening back on December 16 of 2014. Company officials said the new store will be slightly different from that one, which was built to serve oilfield traffic on both the I-20 and U.S. 285 corridors.

“Store #2745 will not be a truck stop, like store #2267, though it will be similar in size,” said Eduardo Pereda, Vice President of Marketing for Stripes stores,.

“The new location wont have the showers or truck parking like the other location, but it will include our proprietary Laredo Taco Company restaurant, as well as a Subway restaurant,” Pereda said.

According to Pereda, the new store will hire between 30-60 full and part-time employees.

“We are looking-forward to opening our second Stripes Store in Pecos, as West Texas has been part of our growth market strategy,” Pereda said, adding that “expanding off the I-20 corridor is compelling for our growth.”

According to press releases, both stores will feature Sunoco fuels.

Previously, Stripes Stores were owned by Susser Holdings Corp until it was acquired in July of 2015 by Sunoco LP and its parent company, Energy Transfer Partners LP. Susser acquired two other Stripes in Pecos and the land for the U.S. 285 store a decade ago, when they merged with Town & Country Food Stores. Land for the newest store was acquired through the Pecos Economic Development Corp.
