Pecos-Barstow-Toyah Independent School District
Pecos is served by one public school system, the Pecos-Barstow-Toyah Independent School District (PBTISD).
Located in central Reeves County, PBTISD serves not only Pecos students, but also the students of Barstow, located in Ward County and Toyah, located 17 miles west of Pecos. The district’s five campuses are located throughout the community and serve more than 2,600 students.

Early College High School
The Texas Education Agency has designated Pecos High School as an Early College High School (ECHS). Through a partnership between Pecos-Barstow-Toyah ISD and The University of Texas of the Permian Basin, this unique education option allows students to earn a high school diploma and up to 60 college credit hours simultaneously.
ECHS provides:
- Dual credit at no cost to students
- Rigorous instruction and accelerated courses
- Support services to help students succeed
- Increased college readiness
- Reduced barriers to college access
- Opportunities to earn scholarship funds
Higher Education
Odessa College in Pecos
Odessa College (OC) Pecos is the Odessa College’s largest extension site, offering Pecos residents easy access to credit and noncredit courses as well as student services that include admissions, financial aid, new student orientation, testing and tutoring.
In addition to GED and online continuing education options, OC Pecos offers the following health career programs:
- Certified Nursing Aide
- Phlebotomy Technician
- Medical Office Skills
OC Pecos opened its doors in the summer of 1999 when an Odessa doctor and his wife donated a 27,000-square-foot building in Pecos to house the new campus. Later, after renovations to the building were made possible by an $860,000 economic development administration grant, the campus grew to house administrative and faculty offices, technical and vocational learning labs, and a student lounge.
